About Alpe Devero Natural Park

Alpe Devero Natural Park is located in the Ossola Valley within the Piedmont region of northern Italy, near the border with Switzerland. This alpine park covers a high mountain plateau surrounded by dramatic peaks reaching elevations over 3,000 meters, exhibiting a blend of lush meadows, dense forests, crystal-clear lakes, and glaciers. The park's geography is dominated by glacial formations and rugged terrain shaped by centuries of alpine erosive forces. Ecologically, it supports a rich variety of flora including rare alpine flowers and protected species such as the Edelweiss, as well as fauna like ibex, marmots, chamois, and golden eagles.

Historically, the area was used for traditional seasonal livestock grazing and still maintains pastoral traditions visible through alpine huts and mountain farms. Visitors can enjoy activities such as hiking on well-marked trails that range from gentle walks to challenging alpine climbs, mountain biking, fishing in the stocked lakes, and winter sports like snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The park is also famed for its two large alpine lakes, Lago Devero and Lago Side, offering picturesque settings and wildlife viewing. The natural park's commitment to preserving its environment while promoting sustainable tourism makes it a compelling destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts seeking pristine mountain experiences away from large crowds.
